{"id":1412,"date":"2013-07-01T16:38:39","date_gmt":"2013-07-01T15:38:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ickleton.org.uk\/wordpress\/?p=1412"},"modified":"2013-07-08T12:08:22","modified_gmt":"2013-07-08T11:08:22","slug":"theatre-trip-18-september-2013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ickleton.org.uk\/wordpress\/theatre-trip-18-september-2013\/","title":{"rendered":"Theatre Trip &#8211; 18 September 2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1422 alignleft\" alt=\"Mansfield Park 2\" src=\"http:\/\/ickleton.org.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Mansfield-Park-2.jpg\" width=\"227\" height=\"156\" \/><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: small\">The Ickleton Society has reserved tickets for a production of Mansfield Park (adapted from the book by Jane Austin) at the Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds on Wednesday 18 September at 7.30pm.\u00a0 We have 2 boxes in the Dress Circle which provide an excellent view of the stage.\u00a0 Tickets normally cost \u00a320 but we are charging \u00a317 for members of the Society and \u00a319 for non-members.\u00a0 NB &#8211; if you haven&#8217;t yet renewed your membership for 2013\/14, do get your skates on so you can take advantage of the discount!\u00a0\u00a0 Nearer the time we will arrange lifts and to share cars.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: small\"><strong>To reserve tickets please contact\u00a0and pay John Fowler by 4 August at the latest.\u00a0 Telephone 531779 or e-mail <a href=\"mailto:jandsfowler@btinternet.com\">jandsfowler@btinternet.com<\/a>.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: small\">We have had a couple of trips to this theatre in the past and it is a great experience.\u00a0 The theatre was built in 1819 and is listed Grade 1.\u00a0 It is the only surviving example of a Regency theatre in the country.\u00a0 It is owned by the Greene King Brewery, leased to the National Trust and sub let to the Bury St Edmunds Theatre Management Ltd.\u00a0 A few years ago the National Trust restored the theatre to its Regency glory\u00a0and it has a beautiful auditorium with an exquisite decorative scheme.\u00a0 The Dress Circle Boxes are particularly interesting in their design\u00a0and also give a really authentic intimate feel of a Regency theatre.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial;font-size: small\">Of course, a play based on a novel written and set in Regency times couldn&#8217;t be more fitting for this theatre.\u00a0 The story is centred on Fanny Price, an intelligent\u00a0young woman who is unceremoniously uprooted from her humble family home and dropped into the bustling, aristocratic household of her uncle, Sir Thomas Bertram, where she finds herself buffeted from one crisis to the next. Yet, throughout this turmoil one thing remains a constant \u2013 her love for the generous, worthy and steadfast Edmund Bertram. But will this love be her salvation?
